Before stomping the throttle in my newly supercharged S2000, it’s important to make sure that the tune is working appropriately, and that the vehicle is getting the correct amount of air and fuel when needed. To do this, I headed to Throttle Works to put the S2000 on a dyno and measure air/fuel ratios, and to adjust as needed.

Ideally, the supercharged engine will maintain an AFR in the range of 11.5:1 to 12:1 when on boost. The car ran 4 full throttle runs to verify the kit maps were working appropriately, and to accurately measure horsepower and torque. How much power did it make? Were any adjustments needed? What tweaks could allow for more horsepower? Is it safe to drive hard? All of these questions answered in the video!

She's supercharged!!! A couple comments to address many of the common questions below. First, engine horsepower vs wheel horsepower. S2000's are 240HP at the crank from the factory, probably around 190-200ish at the wheels (my stock car measured in the 180's). Explained more here: https://youtu.be/BOFVnkrkQ6k. Second, saying "other kits get you more HP reliably" is just regurgitating marketing talk. A kit's purpose is to provide packaging assistance, and ultimately boost. Any kit can do this. It's how fuel, air, and ignition timing are controlled that ultimately dictate reliability (doesn't matter if the kits home-made or $20,000). And comparing kits at different PSI is silly. With any of these supercharger kits (regardless of who makes it), additional power is easy to achieve by swapping supercharger pulleys. If I put on a 9 psi pulley, it has 9 psi at the top end. It would need standalone ECU and new injectors, but from there you're really just choosing a pulley size and picking the amount of boost you feel comfortable throwing at the engine. Hope everyone's having an awesome day!! Loving the supercharge kit, and a video driving coming soon! i sort of want to boost my volvo 740, but a turbo is so mainstream it's not appealing, and i would also like a NA feel, this does seem to provide that predictable curv as it's on a set psi on set rpm instead of fluctuating with the throttle input like a turboed engine.

Did you dyno in 5th or 6th gear?

Other question would be: HOw are A/F ratios at half or 25% throttle?
That's where you'll be driving in most of the time

How does this s2000 with 6 psi make 265hp and my wrx with 21 psi makes 265hp? Is it the rpm? That's why I have a gsxr.

I loved my S2000 but I didn't like being slower than every other car on the road for the first 4500 rpm. Looks liked you've largely solved that issue.

Didn't know you were living in Idaho! I'm in Boise, and I'm assuming at 2700' and based on you using Throttle-works you must be in Boise as well. Awesome videos and keep it up!

Is there anyway to manipulate the tune? Like Hondata or something for Hondas like HP Tuners a factory hack style? I'm not sure of different companies. Its just I'm not a fan of manipulation of fuel pressure because then your short and long term fuel trims will be way off for anything but power-enriched open loop. Which could cause problems if your battery ever goes out will reset those. Maybe there is a cheaper way than a full stand alone.

Watching power gains videos with imperial units is like after sex with a foreign girl. You know she liked it, just not exactly sure how much.

For someone that's always touting efficiency, wondering why not go with a turbocharger?

Solid numbers, excellent install and everything, just curious, no hate 🙂

Crazy we have all these "engineers" in these comments. About what works, what should be done and so on and so forth. Either way great video sir.

Hold on, they didn't have a modis or something plugged in to look at the ECU off of your cars computer and compare it to after the exhaust?
    That's sketchy my guy

you did a video of you driving the car when you first got it. think maybe you should post a video of you reviewing the car now with the SC? i would really like to see that .

I put my Civic on a Mustang dyno in Lake Placid, NY at Moon Performance and am totally sold on the use of a Mustang rather than a DynoJet. The guys at the shop were awesome and explained the difference between the two extremely well and why Mustang numbers are lower. Also, getting that thing to spit out a number above 100 horsepower was hard, but we saw 100.1 on my third run!

Why SC over a Turbo? Whats your engineering take on the drag or HP loss that the SC induces vs the Turbo?

With the mixture going rich and power flattening out at 8300, I'd suspect belt slip.

As someone with an AP2 and having seriously looked at the SOS Stage 1 Supercharger kit, THANK YOU for taking the time to show how in depth the install is and how complete the kit is and what sort of realistic gains to expect.

Dude, my oversized 6758 turbo on my 2.0 produces more boost at 3000 rpm. I can't believe you think a supercharger is better than a turbocharger. Maybe a roots, but not the centrifugal that you bought.
